We
enjoyed a scenic drive through undulating lands that often looked like the coat
of a Chinese Shar-Pei.
The
Route
We took I-84 southeast for 194 miles … that’s it.
About the Day
It was sunny with a light breeze and temperatures in the low 90’s.
Although it may sound cooler when we say “in the low” 90’s, it doesn’t feel it.
Along the Way
I-84 makes a long, steep climb out of Pendleton. It’s an excellent three-lane highway surface.
There were at least three 50 gallon drums of water along the climb marked for
use in overheated engines. Unfortunately,
there were two abandoned cars.
We start on level ground.
The climb begins.
It wraps around the mountainside.
And through it in some places
Looking down toward Pendleton from a viewpoint.
The climb continues.
Approaching Deadman Pass
What goes up …
We drop down into a valley.
Every turn seems to bring a new experience.
It’s pretty desolate between Baker City and Ontario. There were no services for 70 miles.
A Problem
We learned yesterday afternoon that the trailer A/C isn’t working.
Eight years with no problem and it has a problem in 90° weather. Arrgh!
End of Day
We shopped at Walmart.
We stopped at Sunshine
Family Restaurant for dinner and a cooler environment. They specialize in
quality, home-cooked meals and sure hit the mark with ours. Dick had a delicious
Idaho baked potato with his dinner. Idaho potatoes are better in Idaho aren’t
they?
The Campground
We’re staying at Ambassador
RV Resort. Wow! Carol really picked a dandy. We’re in an expanse of dry
flat land, but we have green grass, a concrete patio and excellent services.

Tomorrow
We continue on to Pocatello.
