Day 1 - Columbus, OH to Crawfordsville, IN

A Reflection
This is going to be a long trip.  When we were young and started out on a long trip, we invariably asked our parents “Are we there yet?”  The replies varied.  With our trips these days, the answer is always “Yes” ... no matter how many miles we’ve traveled.  The beauty of enjoying the journey is that we’re always where we are going. It just happens that one of the “wheres” this time is Alaska.

The Route
I-270 to I-70W, I-70W to Indianapolis, I-74W from Indianapolis to Crawfordsville at Exit 34.  It was 229 miles of smooth sailing.

About the Day
We got on the road at 11:30 am.
Carol really pushed to get going.

What a beautiful day!  Sunny, breezy, clear skies (for most of the day) and low 60s.

The Durango towed really, really well.  Cross winds and passing semis were virtually unnoticed.

The scenes were familiar.
We'll be back.
Orange barrels seem to be permanent fixtures here.

The Crawfordsville KOA campground was familiar, too.  This is our third stay.  It's nice and convenient as we travel to new areas.

Everywhere has a story and Crawfordsville is no exception.  It's known for historic contributions to women's rights.  Elizabeth (Lizzie) Boynton Herbert, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Dr. Melissa Butler, Susan B. Anthony, Dr. Mary Holloway Wilhite and others left their marks here.
