The Route
We took I-15 north from Shelby to the border crossing at Coutts, AB. From there we took AB-4 to Lethbridge, then AB-3 from Lethbridge to AB-2 at Fort Macleod and AB-2 north to Calgary where we connected with TCH-1 westbound. We left TCH-1 at Exit 161 and took AB-22 north to Cochrane. The 267 mile trip sure had a lot more route changes than we've seen in the past few days.
About the Day
The morning was pretty cool and dreary.
Getting ready to leave Site #22. |
We stopped at a Pilot Travel Center on the way out of Shelby and filled up next to another Airstream rig. The driver was transporting a new International model from the factory in Jackson Center, OH to Calgary. We all had a good laugh about traveling so far to meet.
The sun peeked through after we crossed the border into Canada.
Obviously, we crossed at a good time. |
We stopped for lunch in Fort Macleod where we met some folks from Cincinnati who were on their way to Alaska also.
Traffic was light most of the way and the highways were in very good condition. Our route took us through the center of Calgary.on some very busy interchanges.
Tidbits
We're a little over half way to Anchorage.
The gas we purchased at $1.029 Canadian per liter today would have cost $2.97 per gallon at home.
We saw some pronghorn yesterday and a red fox and a buffalo today.
The Campground
We're staying at Bow RiversEdge Campground just northwest of Calgary. It's located next to a rough looking industrial park that gives it a negative first impression. However, the campground is very first rate. The grounds and services are spectacular.
Every site has privacy shrubs. |
The Bow River and a walkway run behind our site. |
