We've been testing various driving distances and have settled on less than 225 miles a day if possible.
We're working our way toward a new northern route south of Canada (i.e. US-2). We'll follow it from Grand Forks, ND to just south of Calgary then cross the border.
The Route
Our 204 mile drive was pretty simple. I-35N from Clear Lake to Minneapolis, I-494N through Minneapolis to I-94N which took us to St. Cloud.
About the Day
The skies changed back and forth from mostly sunny to mostly cloudy. The temperature reached the low 70's and there was a pleasant breeze all day.
We were treated to a cool T-38 display as we approached the Degner Regional Airport in Owattona. Carol was able to time this picture through the windshield as a three semi trucks were passing us.

The roads were in pretty good condition. There were some delays on the Minneapolis inner-belt due to widening and roadbed replacement on I-35 and I-494. It was encouraging to see that they take highway construction seriously ... work was being done wherever there were orange barrels.
Did You Know?
We say Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. It's true, but there are actually 14,842 lakes larger than 10 acres. Who has the time to count these things?
Here's just one ... near Minnetonka |
The Campground
We're staying at the St. Cloud Campground & RV Park. We got to see it at its best ... during a mid-week calm. It's very nice.
