The Route
We ended our committed relationship with US-2 by traveling on it for 263 miles from Glasgow to Shelby.
About the Day
Today was overcast, cool, and windy. There were intermittent showers. The temperature struggled to reach the low 50's.
Traffic was light. We got to take in a whole day of northern Montana sights.
Big Sky Country |
There were some boring moments. |
Ridges begin to form in the distance |
There were few trees. |
This lonely church was being renovated. |
Trains hauled 100 or more tank cars. |
The Hitchin' Post provided a fun breakfast stop in Malta. They offer really good home cookin' and friendly service. Coffee was $0.50!
Don't be deceived by an unassuming appearance. |
The walls entertained. |
Rick and Bonnie Tuttle sat next to us.
Carol began a
conversation by complimenting Rick’s
cowboy hat. We had a fun, friendly chat
with them.

Montana Tidbits
It seems all gas stations have casinos and some casinos have gas stations.
Many hotels, motels and inns have added RV parks.
We saw lots of oil tank cars, but no oil wells.
We were plastered by bugs yesterday, but none today.
The Campground
We're staying at Shelby RV Park & Resort (associated with Comfort Inn and Lucky Lil's Casino). It rained lightly during set-up.
Their internet service is the fastest and the only service we've been able to use on the trip.
Whisker Fun
Dick is experimenting with a beard. We'll demonstrate progress each Monday until he gives up.
Week 1 |
Keep the beard! You will fit right in when you get to the 49th state.
