We
returned to the U.S. and are currently suffering from WWS (Wilderness
Withdrawal Syndrome).
The
Route
We had a very easy 102 mile move from BC to WA. We took TCH-1
west from Hope to Abbotsford, crossed the border, took WA-9 on what felt like a
back-country journey to I-5 at Bellingham, and took I-5 south to Mt. Vernon.
Though we skipped right through Customs, there was nearly an hour wait to get
to the inspector’s booth.
About the Day
It was overcast and cool all day. The temperature reached 68°.
Along the Way
A humorous start …
Our campsite at Hope Valley
Campground was tucked deep in a maze of trees, RVs and narrow one-way access
roads. There were no direction signs. We had quite a time finding our way out
to the highway. Obviously, we succeeded.
Getting ready to leave Site #67 |
We stopped at a Tim Hortons
in Sardis, BC to get our last Timmy's coffee for a while and to dispose of our Canadian
coins. Mission accomplished.
We called ahead and got confirmed campground reservations for
tonight and Saturday night. It’s risky not to on holiday weekends.
Wilderness Withdrawal …
Our surroundings have been changing gradually over the past few
days. The full effect hit at the border crossing. The appearance of large
towns, traffic congestion, crowds, and uninspiring sights have made it clear
that our BC, YT, AK adventures have come to an end. We’ll be working on new expectations
for our trip home.
We'll spend the afternoon changing gears.
The Campground
We’re staying at Riverview RV
Park, just off I-5 south of Bellingham. We got the last open site.
This is an older, well maintained park that has all the basics:
full-service sites with cable TV, rest rooms, laundry, and … Walmart access.
This campground offers all you need |
Site #55 |
Everything works well (except their WiFi) |
Tomorrow
We’ll continue south on I-5 to Seattle.
