This
was a day of significant change. We’re no longer near family, the temperature
increased nearly 20°, and the landscape changed
from hills with lots of evergreen trees to dry open range.
The
Route
We took OR-99E to Tualatin-Sherwood Road in Tualatin and followed
it to I-5 where we went north to Portland, connected with I-84, and took I-84
to exit 216 … a 243 mile trip.
About the Day
It was sunny, breezy and warm. The temperature reached 91° as we climbed out of the Columbia River
gorge.
Along the Way
Barbara and Kenny prepared a special going away breakfast of waffles,
real maple syrup, bacon, sausage, fruit and coffee. Leaving is really hard to
do.

Why would we leave this? |
The Portland skyline provides many memories.
 |
Modern buildings |
 |
There are lots of bridges |
 |
And lots of traffic |
I-84 gave us a great view of the Columbia River gorge. We enjoyed
the dramatic terrain and landscape changes as we climbed to the open fields
near Boardman.
 |
There are cliffs and waterfalls. |
 |
There's lots of green. |
 |
And lots of peaks |
 |
We can see what’s coming. |
 |
There was little river traffic today. |
 |
And the trees went where? |
 |
John Day Dam |
 |
We escaped the gorge for this scene. |
 |
Dust devils spin up here. |
 |
A lone grain elevator breaks the monotony. |
 |
Pendleton sits in a valley. |
 |
A storm builds east of Pendleton (It didn't arrive at the campground) |
Travel Trivia
We set up the trailer for the 350th time tonight. It seems like some kind of milestone.
The Campground
We’re staying at Wildhorse
RV Park. It’s part of the Wildhorse Resort and Casino just outside
Pendleton. It’s a well maintained park that has full-service sites, rest rooms,
a laundry, a pool, a spa, Tipi’s for rent and shuttle service to the casino. We
didn’t visit the resort or casino.
