Day 65 – Caldwell, ID to Pocatello, ID

Continually changing terrain really held our attention.

The Route
This was a 268 mile travel day. We left Caldwell on I-84E, switched to I-86 east of Declo, and took I-15S for a few miles in Pocatello to reach the campground.

About the Day
It was sunny with a light breeze and temperatures in the high 80’s.

Along the Way
A surprise …
A large Airstream dealership came into view as soon as we got onto I-84 in Caldwell. We had no idea it was there.

RVs galore …
We saw lots of big RV sales lots today. Most were located along I-84 at Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian and Boise.

A real find …
Twin Falls is located about 4 miles south of I-84. We stopped there for lunch and were treated to great scenic views of Snake River Canyon.
A sample of what greets Twin Falls visitors.

Terrain changes …
We started with lots of flat range land.
... and distant views.
Small hills emerge.
There are dry stretches.
Green fields appear along the Snake River.
I-84 near Hammett and Glenns Ferry
A peaceful scene in rugged territory
Steep cliffs along the Snake River
Mountain views bring another change.
The Snake River south of the American Falls Reservoir
We see irrigation in action everywhere.

Travel Trivia
We’re frequently surprised when surroundings look familiar and a bit delighted when it turns out we’ve crossed a previous trip route. It happened today when we saw a sign advertising Village of Trees RV Resort near Declo. We stayed there September 15, 2014 during our return from the Canada trip.

Idaho wide open spaces make for faster travel (for some).

Idaho fields woo ag-planes.

Idaho seems to cover (with canvas or plastic?) more hay stacks than any state we’ve visited.

The Campground
We’re staying at Cowboy RV Park in Pocatello. It’s nice, not great. The park is clean and well managed. Only 41 daily sites are available and it’s full tonight. We’re tucked into a corner site with trees.
Site #15

Tomorrow
We’re heading for Bozeman, MT.
