Today’s mostly do-over route resulted in some treats.
The Route
We took the Sterling Highway (AK-1) north from Homer to Soldotna
and east through Cooper Landing to the Seward Highway (AK-9). Seward Highway
took us south, ending in Seward at Resurrection Bay.
About the Day
It was very pleasant again… mostly sunny, light breeze, high-70s.
Along the Way
Leaving good memories of Homer …
This was one of our favorite campsites |
The views were spectacular. |
We had some fun treats today. Two occurred near Ninilchik. Another was
an anniversary dinner in Seward.
Deep Creek State Recreation Area is
just south of Ninilchik. We drove along the beach access road to a wildlife
preserve known for its bald eagle population.
The eagles hang around the bluff and wetlands. |
This fellow was in a tree, two-thirds of the way up the face of the bluff |
They were in the creek, in the tall grasses and the trees. |
Look closely. It's flying right toward us. |
Well, hello there. |
We took a wrong turn while trying to get to the Transfiguration of Our Lord Russian Orthodox
Church and ended up driving through an old fishing village and down a single
lane, gravel road by a dock area. The trailer turnaround was tricky.
Heading up the wrong road at low tide |
After getting turned around |
These are not toy boats. |
We finally found the way to the church.
It offers great views from high on a bluff |
Church cemetery |
We drove into Seward after getting set-up at the campground.
Cruise ship visits Seward |
Boat harbor from Ray’s Waterfront Restaurant |
What a wonderful way to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary |
The Campground
We’re camped at Stoney Creek
RV Park, about 5 miles north of Seward. We’re wrapped by trees tonight.
Site #A-20 |
Tomorrow
We’re going to see Exit Glacier and then start the journey toward
Valdez.
