Rain
is in the forecast for the next two days. It’s a good time to lay low a bit.
The Route
We drove round Valdez (it doesn’t take long) and then headed out
to Montgomery Glacier.
About the Day
No sun. It was overcast all morning and started to rain around
2pm. Clouds are almost down to ground level.
Along the Way
We started the day by cruising around town, getting oriented and
half-looking for a breakfast place.
Around town …
Attractive ferry terminal |
And dock area |
What’s Valdez without a tanker? |
The airport is just north of town. |
A breakfast place …
This place has slim pickings for breakfast. We found one, Totem Inn, and it was very good. The
place was packed; service was slow, but worth waiting for.
Did Carol want strawberry French toast or whipped cream? |
Heading for the glacier …
Horsetail Falls |
Bridal Veil Falls |
Lots of running glacier water here |
And pretty stuff |
Going was tough in the early years. |
Glacier hike …
We’re at the end of the easy part. |
Where we’re heading |
It’s a hike |
Not an easy climb |
We made it ... and it started to rain. |
Wow! |
Heading home |
At the Campground
Site #302 |
John and Rose Pearson (from Columbus) arrived this afternoon. We're going to watch the 4th quarter of the Cavs NBA Championship Game and have dinner at Bob's Burgers.
Tomorrow
We’ll explore Valdez.
